Etimologia

Il nome deriva dal mwdggreco mwdwmweaμηκικός, mweqmikikòs cioè mweglongitudinalmente, mwewin senso longitudinale e mwfamwfqβοθρεύειν, mwfgbothrèueiv, cioè mwfwscavare una buca, una fossa, per la forma e l'orientamento della tana.

Distribuzione

Le due specie note di questo genere sono state rinvenute in mwggAmerica meridionale: la Mecicobothrium baccai è stata rinvenuta in mwhaBrasile, nello Stato di mwhqSanta Catarina; la Mecicobothrium thorelli in mwhwArgentina (nella mwiaprovincia di Buenos Aires) e in mwiqUruguaycite-ref-mecicobothriidae-1-0[1].

Tassonomia

Attualmente, a giugno 2012, si compone di due speciecite-ref-mecicobothriidae-1-1[1]:

• mwlgMecicobothrium baccai mwmaLucas et al., 2006 — Brasile
• mwmwMecicobothrium thorelli mwnqmwngHolmberg, 1882cite-ref-2[2] — Argentina, Uruguay
